What is Takoyaki?
Takoyaki (literally "grilled octopus") is a dish made of wheat batter and filling, usually octopus or a similar type of seafood. Takoyaki is grilled in pans with small semi-domed compartments (like poffertjes) and then turned over to give them their round shape, similar to the Danish aebleskiver. Takoyaki sauce, mayonnaise, seaweed, and bonito flakes are all popular toppings for takoyaki, and some restaurants are experimenting with more exotic ingredients like jalapenos, truffle oil, or Parmesan cheese.
Every bite is delicious
Takoyaki is traditionally stuffed with octopus, but can contain any kind of meat or vegetable you like. You could even experiment with savory-sweet fillings to make a dessert-like takoyaki.
