Hey! It’s been a while! Have you tried anything new to eat this week? We’ve been talking a lot about heavier dishes lately, haven’t we? Well, I’ve been craving something sweet lately! Luckily, in Malaysia, there’s no shortage of delicious desserts to choose from!
One of the sweets I really Like is Seri Muka! While it’s definitely a well-loved treat in Malaysia, it’s also popular in Indonesia! Because not only is Seri muka a traditional dish in Malaysia but it’s also a traditional dish in Indonesia! Though in Indonesia its called putri selat.
Seri Muka is a two-layered dessert, with sticky glutinous rice on the bottom that's cooked with coconut milk for a savory, chewy texture. On top, there’s a sweet pandan custard that's soft and aromatic, making every bite a perfect balance of flavors!
It’s so delicious that I even decided to learn how to make it myself! I would share some with you… But, since I’ve already eaten the batch I made, I’ll just share the recipe instead!
To make it, you’ll need to start by cooking glutinous rice with coconut milk and a pinch of salt, then pressing it into a mold to set. For the pandan custard layer, mix rice flour with sugar, pandan extract, and coconut milk, and steam it until it thickens into a silky custard. Once both layers are ready, they’re steamed together until fully set, resulting in that perfect combination of chewy and creamy!
So that has been my week! But what about you? Have you tried anything new this week?
Best regards, Gembira
