A Ball of Joy, Onigiri

Hey! How’s it going? It’s Gembira! Hope you’ve had an awesome week! I can’t wait to share how mine’s been!

The other day, when I was eating an onigiri, I thought to myself, Why are most onigiri triangles? Shouldn't rice balls be, you know, a ball?

So, I did some digging, and guess what? There’s a cool reason why onigiri are shaped like triangles! It’s super practical—it makes them easier to hold and eat. But here’s the fun part: back in the day, people believed that gods lived in the mountains, so they shaped onigiri like triangles to honor that. How neat is that?

Traditionally onigiri is filled with salmon or pickled plums, but today onigiri can be filled with almost anything! My favorite filling is spicy salmon, it's delicious. Have you tried some?

Making onigiri at home is super easy! All you need is some sticky rice, seaweed, and pickled plums, and bam—you’ve got a delicious snack! So, what are you waiting for? Give it a shot and have fun!

Best regards,

Gembira
